Sustainability Book Club and Lecture Series
The Pound Ridge Sustainability Committee and the Pound Ridge Library are excited to launch a new Sustainability Book Club and Lecture Series. The Series aims to help broaden and deepen our community’s understanding of nature, climate, and our shared responsibility for the planet by exploring some classic works of environmental writing, as well as looking at new, important works by leading writers and activists.
We’ll dive into classic voices like John Muir, John Burroughs, Aldo Leopold, and Rachel Carson, alongside influential modern writers such as Bill McKibben, who brought the issue of the climate crisis to a broad general audience for the first time. We’ll also explore today’s most compelling writers and activists who are confronting sustainability and resiliency right now. From Silent Spring to The End of Nature, these works don’t just inform—they inspire action. As environmental scientist Barry Commoner reminded us, our shared challenge is still “making peace with the planet.”
This book club is for anyone who cares about the world they live in and wants to understand what’s happening, why it matters, and what we can do next. No expertise required, just curiosity and a willingness to engage— whether you polished off the last page or are just getting started.
We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every other month, beginning January 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Pound Ridge Library. The library will have multiple copies of each selected book available to borrow in advance. You’re also welcome to purchase a copy from Booksy or find a used edition through an online retailer. For more information on each session, please check the library's website for the event details.
Join us for thoughtful conversation, shared learning, and community connection.
